Christmas Markets in Prague attracts both Prague citizens and tourists

Christmas Markets are unforgettable ingredient in the Czech festive magic at the end of every year. Largest Christmas Markets in Prague are held on both Prague big Squares - the Old Town Square and the Wenceslas Square. But there are also smaller ones: you can find them around Prague, for example on the Namesti Republiky, Havelske Trziste, or Namesti Miru.

The markets were ceremonially started four weeks ahead the Christmas Eve, on 2 Dec 2007 and will last whole month to be closed on 1 Jan 2007.

Famous Christmas Tree, decorated with hundreds of lights, 22 meters tall and more than 100 years old, on the Old Town Square was officially lit as the Christmas Markets were launched.

There are lots of news on the Squares this year. The Christmas stalls got entirely new design and were arranged to make the Old Town Square easily to pass through. The organizers also promised wider range of refreshments, from non-alcoholic drinks to popular punch and mull wine or warm honey liquor.

The markets are inspired by old Czech traditions. The visitors will see Czech traditions, hear Czech choirs and they will be offered to buy the products of Czech craftsmanship. Only Christmas goods will be sold in the markets, for example ornaments, candlesticks, mistletoe, wreaths or candles. Visitor can also taste special traditional meals from different parts of the Czech Republic.

On the main stage, concerts will be held every afternoon from 3pm or 4pm until 9pm. Most of them will be performed by children's choirs, for example by Sedmihlásek, or other choirs, that create unforgettable atmosphere of the Christmas markets. Other concerts will be performed by the soloists of respected opera choirs.

* on New Years Eve 31 Dec 2006 and you can enjoy the celebration of the New Years Eve. The program starts at 7pm on 31 Dec 2006 and lasts till after midnight.

OPENING HOURS: The stalls in the little houses are open every day from 9am to 7pm, at weekends from 9am to 8pm. The stalls with refreshments can be open until midnight.
