Sovinec

Description

Sovinec Castle, dating from the late 13th century, was built in the woody hills of the Nizky Jesenik mountains.

The Empire-style church of St Augustine was built near the castle in 1845. The castle was built by the brothers Vok and Pavel of Hrutovice. At the end of World War II the castle was ravaged and set afire by the local residents.

Since the partial reconstruction in the 1970s and 1980s there has been a permanent exhibition and gallery in the castle. A Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1728-9 stands in front of the church.
