Description
The Podkrusnohorsky zoopark in Chomutov, the largest zoological exhibition in Bohemia, with forested slopes, spacious grassy runs, and extensive water surfaces, is near the town's centre, not far from Kamencove Lake.
The zoo specialises in breeding animals from the Palaearctic, emphasising Europe, but you will find a collection of ancient breeds of domestic animals from various parts of Europe.
You can run into prairie cattle and sheep from the Hungarian Pusta, moor land sheep from Germany, or buffalo from the Balkans. You may also visit a cemetery of extinct animals with sculptures, a unique ancient orchard with edible chestnut trees, a farm with a collection of domestic animals, and a collection of old agricultural machines and the stylish restaurant Tajga.
For children, there are lots of wooden toys, a playground, and the Safari Express and the motorised train, 'Amalka', which will take you on a ride throughout the entire grounds.
