| Karlstejn - the gothic castle, dated from the 14th century, was founded by Emperor Karel IV (Charles IV.) as a repository of imperial crown jewels and sacred remains. It was modified in the Renaissance style and re-built in the purism style between the 19th and 20th century. It includes historic interiors of the Emperor's Palace and of the Marianska Tower. It contains also the Well Tower (Studnicny vez). The limestone area of the Czech Karst in the surrounding of the Karlstejn Castle was proclaimed a natural reserve. An educational path was established here. |
Welcome to the
Karlstejn Castle
In 2004, Karlstejn Castle is going to be open daily except Mondays, from 1st January until 11th January (except 5th January) and from 2nd March until 21st November and from 26th December until 31st December 2004 and also from 1st January until 9th January 2005. The castle is going to be open on the Easter Monday, 12th April 2004 and on Monday 5th July 2004 and then closed on Tuesday 13th April 2004. (Alternatively the castle might be closed some time before 21st November and at Christmas due to unpredictable delays in progress of the major restoration of wooden constructions). The 2nd tour including the Chapel of the Holy Cross is going to beopen from 1st July 2004 until 21st November 2004.
