About Liberec

The town of Liberec lies in the hollow between the Jested ridge and the Jizersky mountains. This small settlement, first mentioned in the year 1352, grew by degrees during the 15th and the first half of the 16th century into a subject town, which emperor Rudolf II confirmed in writing in 1577.

The beginning of the 19th century saw the development of the textile industry and industrial architecture. This helped the town achieve the status of an independent town.

After Prague, Liberec was the biggest town in Bohemia. There were three consulates, 50 textile factories, 60 factories engaged in metal works including the production of RAF cars, among others.
